Locals ‘Give a little Love’ to SAVE London Pub
When the Kings Arms, Tooley Street SE1 shut its doors back in March its fate was unknown.
Over the course of the lockdown period of now nearing 16 weeks, The Kings Arms missed out on four of its biggest trading days: Mother’s Day in March, Easter Weekend and Marathon Day in April, and Father’s Day in June.
Throughout the course of the lockdown locals and regulars for over 17 years got together to support their local hub. From congregating at a social distance for the NHS clap each Thursday to buying vouchers and tee-shirts to literally save their pub.
On Saturday 04th July at 7pm the community and locals will gather at the opening for a socially distanced sing-a-along ‘Give A Little Love’.
“Our regulars and neighbours have been amazingly supportive, coming down every Thursday to dance and clap with us to support the NHS. Sending gifts, cards and buying vouchers and our T-shirt’s through the save pub life scheme. We have been blown away by their positivity and love for the pub and couldn’t have got through this without them”

NEWTON – State Senator Michael Rodrigues endorsed Democrat Becky Grossman in her bid for Massachusetts’s 4th Congressional District. Senator Rodrigues serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. On Beacon Hill, Rodrigues represents Fall River and communities in the South Coast region.
“Becky Grossman is a strong progressive who will go to bat for Fall River and the entire South Coast,” said Rodrigues. “Becky understands that renewable energy projects like Brayton Point will be transformative for our economy and help us become a national leader in clean energy. Becky knows that tackling climate change goes hand in hand with creating new good-paying jobs right here in Fall River which is why I’m dedicated to helping her win this race.”
“Senator Rodrigues has been a tireless advocate for working families and the entire South Coast is lucky to have him in their corner,” said Grossman. “I look forward to working with him to create jobs, improve the economy of the region and combat climate change.”
During Grossman’s time as a Newton City Councilor, she has focused on improving school building facilities, addressing the city’s infrastructure and transportation challenges, and supporting local efforts to combat the climate crisis. Grossman was first elected to the at-large seat in 2017.
Prior to being elected to the Newton City Council, Grossman served as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County under DA Marian Ryan. Grossman received her undergraduate degree in economics at Cornell University and received her J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School.
Grossman currently resides in Newton with her husband Ben, their 5-year-old son Jack, and 8-year-old daughter Madeleine.

You can now register for the annual Santa 5K that brings the community together for the last 5K of the season and gets participants into the holiday spirit whilst giving back to the Rotary Club. On December 7, 2019, be sure to get your running shoes ready and have yourself a merry little holiday race when you join us for the Santa Run.
When running in winter, it is important to remember to shorten your strides. Because winters in Chicagoland are always unpredictable, a shorter stride allows you to be balanced with potential icy and slushy terrain and allows your body to warm up more. With that being said, if you see ice patches on your run, it is safer to walk over those to avoid slipping and ruining your winter run.
Dressing right is an important aspect of enjoying your winter run. You will be provided with a Santa Suit for the Arlington Heights Rotary Santa Run, but you should be prepared to dress warmly under that. Dressing in layers is the best way to be prepared for colder weather. Remembering to wear warmer socks and a hat is a huge factor into how comfortable you will be on your run. Having them be festive is a bonus for our 5K. Wearing running shoes with traction on them also makes it easier for you to enjoy your running without slipping every which way.
Combat the cold by warming your body both before and after the race. Before running in the cold, be sure to warm up with some stretching or simply jumping in place to get your body ready to run. After completing the 5K, warm up your body with something warm like hot chocolate by a warm fire. Warm up with us at our after race celebration at various locations throughout Arlington Heights.
The final thing to consider before embarking on your winter run is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! When doing physical activities outdoors in the winter, your body may forget that it needs just as much hydration as it would when running in hot summery weather. Drinking a lot of water before, during, and after the race is how you get the most out of your winter running experience.
Running 5Ks is something that brings the running community together but also brings the Arlington Heights community together for a good cause in a fun and festive way. We hope to see you there! Register today HERE.

All are invited to enjoy the holidays with local designers, artists, garden clubs, businesses, and non-profit organizations’ exquisite and whimsical holiday decorations on mantels and trees.

This year we have expanded the activities during the Festival to include two Thursday evenings with Beth Allan giving special Morven After Dark tours, tea with the Governor’s Girls, and after last year’s successful gingerbread house-making, adults have their very own session, complete with adult refreshments,” says the Executive Director of Morven Museum & Garden Jill Barry. “We are thrilled to once again invite families to come dressed in their pajamas for our evening with Mrs. Claus. There is something for everyone to enjoy here throughout the season.”
